About Alphonso Mango
Afonso de Albuquerque, Duke of Goa, asked his horticulturist to graft the Tropical Fruit called mango to create a different speices which was named after him as Alphonso Mango which was mis pronounced as "Haphonso" and later "Hapoos". Cultivation of Alphonso Mango is carried out in the entire Konkan belt. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg ( devgad ) districts are majorly famous for rich quality Alphonso Mangoes.
